Satellite communications have had a significant impact on wireless communication services owing to its versatility in comparison to its terrestrial cousins. In today’s wireless mobile world, mobile satellite services (MSS) are indispensable and are used side by side with the very popular cellular services we have all become so accustomed to. If we should think of the sailor on the high seas or the explorer or hunter in a very remote area where cellular accessibility is virtually impossible, then the most likely communication service available is a sat phone. Hence, the advent of several satellite companies in various parts of the world providing satellite services all over the globe. Such companies include Global star, Iridium, Orbcomm, Thuraya, and NTT DoCoMo, to mention but these few. In this research, we examine the shortcomings of handoff call failures and blocked calls of MSS systems just as experienced in terrestrial cellular systems.
