Abstract

Using Porter’s five- Forces Competitive Framework, this study sought to ascertain the factors influencing 3G technology deployment in the telecommunication industry in Ghana. The study employed a multiple case study design. The purposive sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Structured and unstructured interview guides were used for data collection. Data was analysed using the thematic analysis techniques. It was found that suppliers’ power, customers’ power, new entrants, competition within the industry and the threat of substitutes products were seen to have a major influence on Ghana’s network operators 3G deployments. The originality of the study stems from the application of Porter’s Model to investigate 3G deployment in an emerging economy like Ghana.
