Abstract

In this paper Fresnel lens (FL) concentrating optics based photovoltaic (PV) solar system parameters are studied in detail and cost optimization algorithm is developed to reduce the high cost of PV solar energy systems. The concentrating solar system consists of FL places under different facet angles refracting the sun light onto the solar cells placed along a line. There are many constraints that must be taken into consideration while dealing with concentrators. When concentration increases, the refracted sun light will increase on the solar cells, which causes increase in their temperature based on solar cell efficiency dimension and solar radiation (irradiation), and in order to keep the ambient temperature of solar cell we will need a heat sink whose dimensions must be determined by the algorithm. Moreover, increasing concentration causes solar cell efficiency, solar cell number and solar array number to decrease. There are also many other parameters that must be input which help the cost optimization algorithm to find the optimal cost of FL concentrating optics based PV solar system accurately. The new developed automated design system, FLCPVSys, implements the total optimal cost optimization algorithm to determine the optimal cost of FL concentrator based PV system, in addition a table of results is presented showing FLCPVSys results compared with well-known solar energy packages.
